FN0061-COMMERCIAL - Salmon - Reminder to Submit NIL Reports by January 31, 2023

This is a reminder that licence holders are required to meet their 2022 conditions of licence prior to hailing into a 2023 fishery or requesting temporary reallocation of quota. If a licence was issued in 2022 and not fished, the licence holder shall ensure that a Nil Report for the season is submitted. In the event that a fishery does not occur, the licence holder is still required to submit a Nil Report.

The Nil Report form can be downloaded from the DFO Pacific Region website at https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/licence-permis/forms/smon-nil-neant-eng.html.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that all fishing logs must be completed and submitted to DFO in accordance with requirements set out in their 2022 commercial fishing licences. If the logbook is lost or destroyed then a statutory declaration (STAT DEC) stating so is required. A STAT DEC template on the DFO website is located here: https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/licence-permis/forms/smn-declaration.pdf.

Note: Transferring quota from a licence does not constitute fishing; thus, if quota was transferred from a licence, but no fishing occurred under that licence, a Nil Report is required.
