ROE HERRING INFORMATION BULLETIN: 32

STRAIT OF GEORGIA

The roe herring seine fishery in the Strait of Georgia, which began March 9, 2020 closed March 13, 2021 at 19:00 hours (FN0258).  Validated catch is 2,995.65 tons of the 3,227.68 ton quota. The roe herring gillnet fishery, which began March 10 closed March 17 at 18:00 hours (FN0274).  Validated catch is 8,268.55 tons of the 8,716.19 ton quota. The fishery may re-open if further fishing opportunities are identified.

Test vessel Denman Isle has now completed its charter for the season.

The spawn flight departed at 09:15 today from Nanaimo and went as far as the bottom of Denman and Hornby islands then back south to Ladysmith Harbour via Northumberland and Stuart channels returning to Nanaimo through Pylades Channel and the outside of Gabriola Island.  No active spawn was observed today.  The next flight is tentatively scheduled for March 24.
