FN0585-RECREATIONAL - Salmon - Chum - West Coast of Vancouver Island - Areas 21 to 25 - Non-Retention and Reduced Limits


Recreational limits for Chum will be reduced or changed to non-retention in some areas of the West Coast of Vancouver Island based on pre-season forecasts below lower 
fishery reference points.

The following Chum daily limits will be in effect in 2020. 

Areas 21 and 22 - Nitinat - the daily limit for Chum is two (2) per day, from 00:01 hours July 15, 2020 to 23:59 hours December 31. Limits may change on short notice 
depending on in-season information.  

Area 23 - Barkley Sound - the daily limit for Chum is zero (0) per day, from 00:01 hours July 15, 2020 to 23:59 hours December 31.
Area 24 - Clayoquot Sound - the daily limit for Chum is zero (0) per day, from 00:01 hours July 15, 2020 to 23:59 hours December 31.

Area 25 - Nootka Sound - Subareas 25-1 to 25-8 and 25-15 - the daily limit for Chum is zero (0) per day, from 00:01 hours July 15, 2020 to 23:59 hours December 31.

For clarity, daily limits remain 4 per day in the following areas:

Area 25 - Esperanza Inlet - Subareas 25-9 to 25-14 - the daily limit for Chum is four (4) per day, from 00:01 hours July 15, 2020 to 23:59 hours December 31.

Area 26 - Kyuquot Sound - the daily limit for Chum is four (4) per day, from 00:01 hours July 15, 2020 to 23:59 hours December 31.

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal 
waters of British Columbia.  

The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery program by labeling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and Coho 
salmon.  Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for coast-wide stock assessment.  Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program toll free at (866)

Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCAs) are currently in effect and are closed to all fin-fishing.  Descriptions of RCAs, other closures such as fin-fish closed areas and
