FN1121-COMMERCIAL - Invertebrates: Prawn and Shrimp by Trap - Area 20 - Coonstripe Shrimp Fishery Opening November 1, 2019


Open 12:00 hours (noon) November 1 to 23:59 hours December 31, 2019 for all 
species of shrimp, excluding prawns, in Subareas 20-6 and 20-7 (Sooke Harbour 
and Basin). 

Closures may be implemented prior to December 31, 2019 as determined by the 
Department. 

Subareas are described in the Pacific Fishery Management Area Regulations.

Note:
Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) requirements are in effect.  

Sooke coonstripe harvesters may fish solid sided or bucket traps of no more 
than 50 liters or traditional solid sided cedar lathe traps with a volume of no 
greater than 230 litres. A maximum of 50 traps may be used. Trap tags are 
required. Traps may be individually buoyed.

Traps must be sorted and all prawns and other bycatch released as each trap 
comes on board.

Freezing of whole or tailed product in solid blocks or tubs of ice will require 
that the fisher provide randomly selected samples to be thawed for inspection 
by Fishery Officers upon request.

Fisheries & Oceans Canada (DFO) staff may begin a sampling/assessment program 
in the area; the cooperation of harvesters is requested in this program.
