FN1113-COMMERCIAL - Invertebrates: Intertidal Manila and Littleneck Clam - Portions of Area 15 and 16 - Opens October 28, 2019
The commercial Manila and Littleneck Clam by handpicking fishery opens from 17:00 hours October 28, to 08:00 hours October 30, 2019 (2 tides) in the following areas: 15-1 to 15-3, 15-5 except that portion of Subarea 15-5 south of a line drawn from a point on the northwest shoreline of Raza Island at 50°18.26' north latitude and 124°58.10' west longitude, thence easterly to a point on the west coast of West Redonda Island at 50°18.12' north latitude and 124°55.48' west longitude, thence southerly following the shoreline of West Redonda Island to a point at 50°12.29' north latitude and 124°56.55' west longitude, thence southwesterly to a point on the northeast coast of Cortes Island at 50°11.74' north latitude and 124°56.94' west longitude, thence northwesterly following the shoreline of Cortes Island to Bullock Bluff, thence true north following the boundary line to Raza Island, and thence following the shoreline northeasterly back to the point of commencement Subareas 16-1, 16-2, 16-6 Northerly of Cawley Point, 16-8, 16-9, 16-10, 16-11, 16-12, 16-13, 16-16, 16-17, 16-21 Variation Order # 2019-592 The following areas remain closed: Cortes Island and Twin Islands portion of subareas 15-3 and 15-5; Savary Island portion of Subarea 15-2; Mitlenatch Island Nature Park portion of 15-2 and 15-3; Okeover park in 15-4; Harwood Point Park, (Harwood Point, Texada Island); Portion of Sechelt Inlet Subareas 16-5, portion of 16-6 Southerly of Cawley Point and 16-7; Subareas 16-19 and 16-20 (Lasqueti Island). Harvesting is prohibited in all sanitary contamination closures. This fishery will only take place provided Biotoxin levels and water quality remain acceptable. Harvesters are responsible for checking Fishery Notices for the Bivalve Shellfish Marine Biotoxin Updates, as recommended by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and issued by DFO. For descriptions of Sanitary and Biotoxin closures see the DFO website at http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/contamination/index-eng.html Shellfish harvesters are advised to monitor weather conditions and warnings and to plan their harvesting activities accordingly. Harvesters should contact their respective buyers and processors prior to the fishery to ensure their product will be purchased. Harvesting on shellfish aquaculture tenures is prohibited without explicit authorization of the tenure holder. All eligible fishers must have their 2019 commercial clam licence and 2019 Fish Harvesters Registration Card, must carry valid photo identification along with their Fishing licences and meet the Conditions of that licence. This includes: Wear a high visibility vest with licence number marked on it. All containers holding clams shall be marked or tagged with the following information: Licence number, Harvest date, Licence holder's name, beach or location where harvesting occurred and the Pacific Fisheries Management Subarea. Tags shall be waterproof and information shall be written in water resistant ink. No container of clams shall remain untagged during transport to market sale or a wet storage location in preparation for market sale. Fishers should consult the 2019/21 Intertidal Clam Management Plan and the local DFO office for descriptions of closed areas and contact numbers for further information.
