Fishery Notice

Further to FN1015, the 10 vessel Area D Demonstration fishery that was proposed 
to occur from October 26 to 28 in portions of Area 14 has been cancelled. The 
proposed demonstration fishery has been cancelled to allow for more Chum 
escapement into the Puntledge, Big Qualicum and Little Qualicum Rivers, as chum 
returns continue to be low. The current estimated chum return to the Puntledge 
River is 3,000 chum. As Chum returns have been very poor this year in Johnstone 
Strait, the West Coast of Vancouver Island and Area 14 there will be no further 
opportunities for an Area D Chum Demonstration fishery in Area 14. The 
Department will continue to monitor the Chum returns in these rivers and will 
provide weekly updates with the other areas.
