FN1083-COMMERCIAL - Salmon - Chum - Area 12 and 13 - Johnstone Strait - Mixed Stock Fisheries - Update
Further to Fishery Notice FN1059, Johnstone Strait Chum test-fishing catches continue to be poor and are the lowest on record since the 1980s. Based on the information to date, there is a low likelihood that the 1.0 million Chum critical threshold identified in the IFMP and Chapter 6 of the Pacific Salmon Treaty will be met. In response to the continued low test-fishery catches and low probability of reaching the 1.0 million Chum critical threshold, Johnstone Strait mixed stock commercial Chum fisheries are suspended for the remainder of the season. The Johnstone Strait Chum test fishery is expected to continue in some capacity in the short term. Additional adjustments to the test fishery schedule (planned pre-season end date of October 31) may occur if low catches continue.
