FN0895-Commercial - Salmon: Gill Net - Area D - Area 25 - Conuma Chinook Update
Broodstock collection activities have commenced at the Conuma Hatchery however, current estimates of escapement to the Conuma River are approximately 2,800 Chinook compared with the escapement goal of 11,100. This week's Area D gillnet fishery caught approximately 200 Chinook with four vessels participating for most of the three nights. Based on current observations, a reduced run size of 40,000 has been adopted for management purposes. The estimated Area D catch for the season is 14,700 Chinook and there is no remaining TAC at this reduced run size. Escapements to the Conuma River will be monitored daily and a fishery opening on short notice may occur if conditions change. An Area 25 Roundtable call will occur on Monday to review hatchery broodstock collection progress and escapement observations.
