FN0882-YUKON/TBR - RECREATIONAL Salmon - Alsek River (including the Tatshenshini River and tributaries) - 2019 Sockeye Salmon - Quota Change
Sockeye Salmon: The return of sockeye salmon to the Klukshu River (and the upper Alsek River watershed) has exceeded the pre-season forecast. With approximately 65% of the run complete (to date), the total return to Klukshu River is anticipated to surpass 20,000 fish. A run of this magnitude is of sufficient size to achieve the upper end of the spawning escapement goal range (11,000) and provide for a full subsistence (First Nation) harvest. In response to the better than expected sockeye salmon return to the Alsek River, the sockeye salmon catch limits will be increased to 2 per day and 4 in possession for public (recreational) salmon angling in the waters of the Tatshenshini River upstream of the Village Creek and Tatshenshini River confluence to the Yukon and British Columbia border, beginning September 5th, 2019.
