North Coast Herring Update March 14, 2018: Area 4 - Big Bay The charter vessel Nita Maria will begin sounding in Big Bay area on March 15. DFO manager Corey Martens will be on-board. Test charter seining activities will commence to collect herring samples for science analysis. This charter will be approximately 13 days. Any intense fish sounding mammal, bird, whale, or herring spawn observations are requested to be reported to the contacts below. In 2019, a remote piloted aircraft (drone) will be used to expand our observations and monitor spawn. Any concerns can be reported to the contacts below. Area 5 - Kitkatla The charter vessel Franciscan No. 1 will begin sounding in Kitkatla Inlet area on March 15 with DFO manager Jennifer Gordon on-board. Test charter seining activities will commence to collect herring samples for science analysis. This charter will be approximately 13 days. Any intense fish sounding mammal, bird, whale, or herring spawn observations are requested to be reported to the contacts below. In 2019, a remote piloted aircraft (drone) will be used to expand our observations and monitor spawn. Any concerns can be reported to the contacts below. The next notice will be March 18, 2019.
