Fishery Notice

The major stock assessment area in Haida Gwaii (Area 2E) is closed to all 
commercial herring activities due to low stock abundance.

But minor stock assessment Area 2W has a small herring surplus for a spawn on 
kelp fishing opportunity.  Licence holders in the Haida Gwaii assessment area 
may express their interest to fish Area 2W.  If more than 1 licence holder 
expresses interest to the contact below, a selection process will be held.  The 
expression of interest is due February 11, 2019.  

Operators wishing to participate in the 2019 fishing season must enrol in the 
mandatory monitoring program with JO Thomas and Associates at (604) 291-6340.
