FN1068-Draft Food and Bait and Special Use Pacific Herring Commercial Fishing Plans Available for 30 day Review and Comment

Fisheries and Ocean Canada is soliciting comments on the DRAFT 2018/19 Food &
Bait and Special Use Pacific Herring Commercial Plans. Following the comment
period, these plans will be included as appendices in the full 2018/2019
Pacific Herring Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP), which will also be
available for 30 day review.

The plans can be downloaded directly at:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1utm7c8f8ia5l58/AADDnBt9Jvn1aVsLdADCuPwBa?dl=0

Alternatively, the plans can be obtained by contacting the lead fishery
managers, as noted below.

The 2018/19 Food and Bait and Special Use Pacific Herring fisheries are
scheduled to open on November 7, 2018.

The initial catch target for the Food and Bait herring fishery is 4,000 short
tons in the Strait of Georgia (SOG). Harvest levels for Prince Rupert District
(PRD) will be determined following a review of the annual stock assessment and
forecast for Pacific Herring. Access may be provided through the option to
select harvest in either the SOG or PRD Food and Bait fisheries instead of the
Roe Seine fishery. Further details regarding the Food and Bait herring
licensing process will be provided in a separate fishery notice.

The development of the consolidated 2018/2019 Pacific Herring IFMP and
associated appendices will be undertaken over the upcoming months with a target
date for release of the consolidated draft IFMP in November. Amendments to the
Food and Bait or Special Use Commercial Plans, including final catch targets,
will be reflected in the consolidated draft IFMP.

Please provide any comments on the draft plans to the lead fishery managers
