Fishery Notice

The current three year term for the DFO Shrimp Trawl Sectoral Advisory 
Committee membership expires this fall.  Fisheries and Oceans Canada has been 
conducting a selection process over the last couple months to determine the 
representatives to the DFO Shrimp Trawl Sectoral Advisory Committee for the 
next three year term (Fall 2018 to Fall 2021).  Letters seeking nominations for 
commercial S and FS licence eligibility holder representatives were mailed out 
earlier this summer to all licence eligibility holders.
 
The commercial licence holder representatives will form part of the sectoral 
advisory committee, along with processor representatives, and representatives 
from First Nations and environmental organizations.  Recommendations from this 
body provide important information and advice to the Department when proposed 
changes are being considered within the fishery.  

There are six seats available on the committee for commercial licence holder 
representatives.  The Department received only five nominations.  Since the 
number of seats available on the committee exceeded the number of nominations, 
DFO decided to appoint all five persons nominated, rather than hold a formal 
voting election.  

DFO also contacted Processors to seek their interest in participating as 
Processor representatives on the committee.  Four seats were available on the 
committee for processors.  The Department received two requests to participate.
 
The Shrimp Trawl Sectoral Advisory Committee also reserves a seat for the 
executive director of each of the two formal licence holder associations 
involved in the commercial fishery.
