Osoyoos Lake

Further to Fishery Notice FN0788, a meeting occurred August 22, 2018 between 
Departmental Staff, Okanagan Nation Alliance and the Mid Fraser Thompson 
Okanagan Sport Fish Advisory Committee to discuss in season information for 
Okanagan Sockeye. A decision was made to close the recreational fishery on 
Sunday August 26, 2018 as the agreed to harvest target has been met. Additional 
opportunities may be provided if additional migration into Osoyoos Lake is 
observed.

As such, effective one hour after sunset on August 26, 2018 until further 
notice, sockeye salmon fishing is closed in the portion of Osoyoos Lake north 
of the bridge at HWY 3 (North Basin).

Notes:

There is no fishing for anadromous salmon in Skaha Lake. Kokanee and Sockeye 
are present in Skaha Lake and it is recommended to release any salmon over 50 
cm to avoid Sockeye.

Single barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in non-tidal waters 
of British Columbia.

Daylight Hours only refers to one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. 
Reference to sunrise and sunset means the times for those events as calculated 
by the National Research Council of Canada and published daily in the Kelowna 
Daily Courier.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery 
program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped Chinook and 
Coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for 
coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program 
toll free at (866) 483-9994 for further information.

If you're going fishing for salmon in non-tidal (fresh) waters, you need a Non-
Tidal Angling Licence, issued by the Province of British Columbia. Visit the 
provincial website to buy your licence. Licences are available to B.C. 
residents and non-residents. Fees may vary and are listed online
www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/licences.
