Fishery Notice

Further to Fishery Notice FN0053, Gill Net area re-selection will commence, Friday, February 13, 2026 at 13:00 hours and close at 16:00 hours.

Note: Applications received to date have been entered for the following areas:

Rules for Area Re-selection: 

1. Changes may only be made via email at DFO.LicensingPelagics-Permispelagiques.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca. 

2. A request for area re-selection must be submitted by email and accompanied by a revised Gill Net application and amended pool designation lists. The revised application must indicate the area re-selection and the pool coordinator. The amended pool designation lists must be for both the pool the Gill Net licence is leaving and the pool it will be joining.  

3. Emails to request area re-selection that are received prior to 13:00 or after 16:00 on Friday, February 13, 2026 will not be processed.

4. Once the ideal numbers for an area are achieved that area will be closed for area re-selection. 

5. Requests for a licence to enter in an area that is oversubscribed will not be processed. Re-selection will only be permitted from oversubscribed areas to under subscribed areas.

REMINDER OF IMPORTANT UPCOMING DEADLINES:

February 13, 2026: Deadline to indicate whether Food and Bait (category ZM) quota will be allocated to the licence eligibility holders Roe Herring seine licence (category HS/FHS); indication of this must be made as a request via the NOLS, when applying for issuance of the Food and Bait Herring (category ZM) licence.

February 13, 2026: Area Selection, pool designation lists and pool captain selections deadline for Seine through application forms and pool designation list submissions; all of which must be submitted by email at DFO.LicensingPelagics-Permispelagiques.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca 

February 16, 2026: Final Gill Net pool designation lists submitted by Pool Captains deadline; all pool designation list submissions must be made by email at DFO.LicensingPelagics-Permispelagiques.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca 

February 18, 2026: If required, Seine Area re-selection process to commence at 13:00 hours through the submission of a Request for Roe Herring Seine Area Re-selection form, if areas are over or under subscribed; all area re-selection forms must be submitted by email at DFO.LicensingPelagics-Permispelagiques.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca  

February 19, 2026: Final Seine pool designation lists submitted by Pool Captains deadline; all pool designation list submissions must be made by email at DFO.LicensingPelagics-Permispelagiques.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca 

February 20, 2026: Target date for issuance and release of Licence document, Conditions of Licence and allocated quota; these documents will be available for printing in the NOLS.

PLEASE NOTE: any changes or updates to these dates will be provided by way of a fishery notice. There are 252 seine and 1,267 Gill Net licences, some of which may be held in DFO inventory or marked as inactive for other programs.
