FN1311-SANITARY - Rainfall Warnings for Central Coast, Inland Vancouver Island, East Vancouver Island and Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay, B.C. have been Issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada's Weather Service.
Please be advised that intense rainfall events resulting in flooding and/or sewage collection system overflows, can adversely affect marine water quality and potentially result in temporary emergency shellfish harvesting closures. Although there is no proposed closure at this time, shellfish harvesters are advised to monitor weather conditions and warnings, and to plan their harvesting activities accordingly. (082200) Impact Level: Moderate Forecast Confidence: High Heavy rain is expected. What: Total rainfall amounts near 50-70 mm. When: Now to Monday afternoon. Where: Central Coast - inland sections. Additional information: A Pacific frontal system brings heavy rain to Central Coast - inland sections tonight into Monday afternoon. Heavy rain will ease to a few showers Monday afternoon as the frontal system moves southward. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas such as steep slopes, deforested areas or recent burn scars. Watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Issued at 2025-12-14 1:34PM PST by Environment Canada: Yellow level warning - rainfall - issued for: Inland Vancouver Island, B.C. (081500) Impact Level: Moderate Forecast Confidence: High Rain, at times heavy, is expected. What: Rainfall amounts of 80 to 120 mm. When: Late this afternoon to early Monday afternoon. Where: Inland and West Vancouver Island. Remarks: A stronger frontal system will arrive this afternoon bringing significant rain to the west coast of Vancouver Island. The heaviest rain will be tonight with a southwesterly flow raising freezing levels to near 2800 metres overnight. Rain will ease on Monday afternoon as the system moves off. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas such as steep slopes, deforested areas or recent burn scars. Don't drive through flooded roadways. Allow extra time for travel. Watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Issued at 2025-12-14 5:30AM PST by Environment Canada: Yellow level warning - rainfall - issued for: East Vancouver Island - Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay, B.C. (081320) Impact Level: Moderate Forecast Confidence: High Rain, at times heavy, is expected. What: Rainfall amounts near 50 mm. When: Tonight through Monday afternoon. Where: Between Qualicum Beach and Fanny Bay. Remarks: While light to moderate rainfall occurs this morning, a stronger frontal system will reach Vancouver Island this afternoon. Southwesterly flow associated with the front will push a plume of moisture across Vancouver Island and cause heavy rain to fall between Qualicum Beach and Fanny Bay. Freezing levels are expected to rise to near 2700 metres late overnight before falling with the passage of the front on Monday afternoon. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Don't drive through flooded roadways. Watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
