FN1248-Amendment to FN1237 - Sanitary - Changes to Sanitary Closures for Bivalve Shellfish in Areas 13 and 15.
The following revised bivalve shellfish sanitary closure boundaries are now in effect as a result of recommendations from the Pacific Region Interdepartmental Shellfish Committee. You can find the new or amended sanitary closures on the mapping site SHELLI https://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/shellfish-mollusques/cssp-map-eng.htm by searching for the Prohibition Order or sanitary closure number listed for each of the revised sanitary closures below. Closure 13.30 Open Bay, Quadra Island - the existing closure has been revoked. Revoked PSN-2022-654 The waters and intertidal foreshore of the southwestern head of Open Bay, Quadra Island, lying northwest inside of a line drawn from a point on land at 50°08.109' north latitude and 125°12.988' west longitude, thence northeasterly to a point on land at 50°08.266' north latitude and 125°12.742' west longitude. [NAD83] January 1 to December 31 Closure 15.30 Southern Entrance to Theodosia Inlet - the existing closure has been expanded. Revoked PSN-2022-657 Invoked PSN-2025-789 The waters and intertidal foreshore at the south entrance of Theodosia Inlet, within a portion of Subarea 15-4, south of a line drawn from a point [on land] at 50°04.086'N, 124°41.823'W, thence southwesterly to a point [on land] at 50°04.045'N, 124°41.919'W, thence following the shoreline easterly to a point [on land] at 50°03.924'N, 124°41.276' W, and thence northwesterly to a point [on land] at 50°04.017'N, 124°41.504'W. [NAD83] January 1 to December 31 Note that this notice does not describe other sanitary closures which may be in effect, or Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP, red tide) and other marine biotoxin closures. For an area to be open and safe for harvesting, both biotoxin and sanitary need to be open.
