FN1170-SANITARY - Bivalve Shellfish Sanitary Closure - Area 14 - Reopen Section 14.22C of the Baynes Sound Conditional Management Plan, PSN-2025-681.


Effective November 3, 2025, the harvest prohibition is lifted for bivalve shellfish in Baynes Sound, Section C, within Subarea 14-8, as per the Baynes Sound Conditional Management Plan. This section reverted to closed status on October 24, 2025, after rainfall exceeded the trigger for Section C as per the Baynes Sound Conditional Management Plan. Water quality and shellstock samples meet acceptable standards.

The waters and intertidal foreshore of Baynes Sound inside a line commencing at the northern point of Ship Point at a position 49°30.34' north latitude and 124°48.40' west longitude, thence northeasterly to a position 49°30.71' north latitude and 124°47.97' west longitude, thence southeasterly to a position 49°28.47' north latitude and 124°44.95' west longitude, thence southerly to a point on the Vancouver Island shore at 49°27.74' north latitude and 124°45.47' west longitude. [NAD 83]

Note that this notice does not describe other sanitary closures which may be in effect, or Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP, red tide) and other marine biotoxin closures. For an area to be open and safe for harvesting, both biotoxin and sanitary need to be open.
