FN1130-SANITARY - Rainfall Warnings for West and East Vancouver Island, B.C. have been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada's Weather Service.


Rainfall warning issued for:
West Vancouver Island, B.C. (081400)

Current details: 
Moderate to heavy rain. 

What: 80 mm of rain, with up to 140 mm possible near Gold River and Zeballos.

When: Overnight tonight through Thursday. 

Where: West Vancouver Island and Inland Vancouver Island.

Remarks:
A strong frontal system will move across the South Coast region from Thursday into Friday. Moderate to heavy rain is expected over the west and inland sections of Vancouver Island beginning overnight tonight and continuing through the day on Thursday. After the cold front passes, the rain will taper off to showers Thursday night. The highest amounts are expected to be on the Northwestern part of the regions, near Gold River and Zeballos.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. 

Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.


Rainfall warning issued for:
East Vancouver Island - Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay, B.C. (081320)
East Vancouver Island - Courtenay to Campbell River, B.C. (081330)

Current details: 
Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

What: 40 to 70 mm of rain. 

When: Late this afternoon through early Friday morning. 

Where: East Vancouver Island near Bowser and North Courtenay.

Remarks:
A strong frontal system will move across the South Coast region from this afternoon through tonight. Moderate to heavy rain is expected over East Vancouver Island tonight. In the wake of the front, the rain will taper to a few showers early Friday morning. The highest rainfall amounts are expected near Bowser and North Courtenay on East Vancouver Island.
