The Council of Haida Nation, DFO and Parks Canada have released the Haida Gwaii Yáanuu ? G?iinuu ? Giant Red Sea Cucumber Management Plan for comment.

Deadline for submission of comments is October 31, 2025.

The Haida Gwaii Yáanuu ? G?iinuu ? Giant Red Sea Cucumber Management Plan has been developed collaboratively by the Council of Haida Nation, DFO and Parks Canada. This management plan implements an ecosystem-based management approach and precautionary, biologically-based management practices, and highlights fisheries reconciliation and cooperative development of management plans as a model for other Haida Gwaii fisheries.

This plan is a realized commitment of the Gay??ahlda ? Kwah.hlahl.dáyaa Changing Tide Framework for Reconciliation, which guides a renewed Nation-to-Nation relationship grounded in cooperation, partnership, and reconciliation, and based on the recognition of Haida Title and Rights. The development and implementation of this plan reflect the "good faith measures" envisioned in the Framework, demonstrating a collaborative process between the Government of Canada and the Council of the Haida Nation.

The earliest a commercial fishery could open around Haida Gwaii would be October 2026.
