The gill net commercial salmon fishery for the lower Stikine River will be open effective 12:00 hrs on June 29, 2025 and remain in force until 12:00 hrs July 02, 2025.

The commercial fishing area includes the waters of the Stikine River from the International Boundary between Canada and the United States of America upstream to the boundary signs located 4.0 kilometres upstream of the International Boundary; and from the boundary signs located 4.5 kilometres upstream of the International Boundary to the boundary signs located near the confluence of the Stikine and Porcupine rivers; and the portion of the Iskut River from its confluence with the Stikine River to the boundary signs located 1.5 km upstream from the water survey station on the Iskut River, but excluding any other tributaries of the Stikine River or the Iskut River.

The minimum allowable mesh size of gill nets used in this fishery shall not be less than 100(one hundred) millimetres.  The maximum allowable mesh size of gill nets used in this fishery shall not exceed 140(one hundred forty) millimetres.  The maximum gill net depth shall not exceed 60(sixty) meshes.  The maximum gill net hang ratio shall not exceed 3(three) fathoms of mesh to 1(one) fathom of corkline (3:1).  The minimum corkline to web distance shall not be less than 100 (one hundred) centimetres.  The maximum corkline to web distance may not exceed 100 (one hundred) centimetres.

This fishery is targeting on sockeye salmon.  Due to Chinook salmon escapement concerns, fishers are not permitted to retain Chinook salmon.  The use of a set net shall be permitted provided that the net is fished for a maximum of 30 minutes before it is picked in order to allow for the release of Chinook. Fishers are reminded that reporting periods end at 1200 hrs. (noon) each day. Notice of this opening is subject to change, should additional protection be necessary. Please note that catch estimates ("hails") may be requested by a departmental representative at any point during the opening to inform fishery management decisions. As per the 2025 lower Stikine River commercial conditions of license, all tags recovered during an opening shall be recorded by date, capture location, and the fisher's name and delivered to DFO personnel or designate by the reporting deadline. For released Chinook salmon, do not remove tags. All Chinook salmon tags observed during an opening shall be recorded by date, capture location, tag color, fish size (large or small) and fishers name, and reported to DFO personnel or designate by the reporting deadline.
