FN0959-Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative, Pacific Salmon Commercial Licence Retirement Program Application deadline: October 31, 2024
The Pacific Salmon Commercial Licence Retirement Program provides an opportunity for commercial salmon troll, gillnet and seine licence eligibility holders to apply to retire their licence eligibilities on a voluntary basis. This program will support a transition to a smaller commercial harvesting sector that is better aligned with the scope of future fishing opportunity and more financially viable. The Pacific Salmon Commercial Licence Retirement Program application packages will be mailed to vessel owners/licence eligibility holders that hold one or more full or reduced fee salmon seine, gillnet or troll licence eligibility(s) in valid or renewal status. Applications will also be available online at: https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/salmon-saumon/comm-licence-retirement-retrait-permis-eng.html. The Department evaluates applications received, and acceptance of offers will be influenced by the amount of voluntary payment requested and the guidelines and market value the Department is using to evaluate offers. The Department has funds available for the Pacific Salmon Commercial Licence Retirement Program and has separate funds available for the Relinquishment of Commercial Fishing Licence Eligibilities process, which aims to relinquish licenses that will be retained for participation of First Nations communities in right-based fisheries. Any applications submitted through the Pacific Salmon Commercial Licence Retirement Program may be considered for both processes. Financial considerations may impact your decision on whether or not to apply. It is recommended that you seek independent advice regarding income tax, financial, legal and other implications related to retiring commercial salmon licence eligibilities. To apply, please submit your application by October 31, 2024.
