In accordance with Section 6.2 of the CSSP Manual, PRISC recommends that the following area within PFMA Subareas 12-22 , 12-23 and 12-26 be placed immediately into Closed Status under emergency chemical contamination closure to prevent the harvesting of potentially contaminated bivalve shellfish: Emergency Closure 12.kk - portions of Chatham Channel, Call Inlet and Havannah Channel Harvesting of bivalve shellfish is prohibited within the waters and intertidal foreshore of portions of Subareas 12-22, 12-23 and 12-26, lying inside a line drawn from a point on East Cracroft Island at 50°36.70' north latitude and 126° 17.75' west longitude, easterly to a point on land at 50°36.78' north latitude and 126°16.53' west longitude, thence southeasterly along the shoreline to a point of land in Call Inlet at 50°34.81' north latitude and 126°11.39' west longitude, thence southeastery to a point on land at 50°34.44' north latitude and 126°10.69' west longitude, thence southwesterly along the shoreline to a point on land in Boughey Bay at 50°32.53' north latitude and 126°11.22' west longitude, thence southwesterly to a point of land at 50°32.06' north latitude and 126°11.71' west longitude, thence westerly along the shoreline to a point of land in Havannah Channel at 50°31.74' north latitude and 126°14.96' west longitude, thence northwesterly to a point of land at 50°32.23' north latitude and 126°15.45' west longitude, thence northwesterly following the shoreline of East Cracroft Island back to the point of commencement. [Sanitary Closure Map 12.kk] [NAD 83] A per the CSSP Manual, Section 6.2 Emergency Events, closure of affected areas due to a chemical event will remain in place for a minimum of 7 days, at which time the PRISC partners will evaluate the situation and advise DFO if changes in the closure status are warranted. Note that this notice does not describe other chemical or sanitary closures which may be in effect, or Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP, red tide) and other marine biotoxin closures. Detailed bivalve shellfish closure information and maps are available at our website: http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/contamination/biotox/index-eng.html and at local DFO offices.
