FN1182-SANITARY - Emergency Closure for Bivalve Shellfish near French Creek in a portion of Subareas 14-1, 14-2, 14-3 and 14-4 has been revoked
As a follow-up to Emergency Closures 14.hh and 14.ii, invoked on October 28, 2019, and subsequently replaced by Emergency Closure 14.af on October 30, 2019, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has been informed the cause of the sewage spill that occurred at 1045 Lee Road in French Creek has ceased, and that no further occurrence has been reported since the original event. This area has remained closed for greater than the 21-day minimum closure period required after the cessation of this unscheduled release of 1.0 m3 (1000 L) of raw sewage. As per Chapter 6 of the CSSP Manual, ECCC recommends that Emergency Closure 14.af be revoked and that the classification of the area return to its previous status. Therefore, emergency sanitary closure 14.af for bivalve shellfish, as described below, is now revoked. Emergency Sanitary Closure 14.af - French Creek: The waters and intertidal foreshore of Georgia Strait near 1045 Lee Road in French Creek lying inside a 600 m radius centered at a point on land at 49° 20.94' north latitude and 124°21.59' west longitude. [NAD 83] Note that this notice does not describe other sanitary closures which may be in effect, or Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP, red tide) and other marine biotoxin closures. Detailed bivalve shellfish closure information and maps are available at our website: http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/contamination/index-eng.html and at local DFO offices. For more information contact a local DFO office or Elysha Gordon at 250-756- 7192.
