Fishery Notice

Area 8

There will be no commercial opportunity in Area 8 during the week of August 4 
to 10, 2019.  

Ongoing assessments have not observed any significant numbers of Chum salmon 
within the Bella Coola River or tributary creeks. 

Concerns over the current low numbers and the potential for poor Chum return to 
the Bella Coola River and Area 8 systems warrants a continued precautionary 
approach, until such a time there is reasonable expectation that escapement 
targets will be met.  

Daily assessments are being conducted on local river systems and further 
openings will be subject to the results of those assessments.   

The next notice will be August 8, 2019.
