Fishery Notice

The Conuma Hatchery Chinook pre-season forecast is for a terminal return of 
20,000 (range 12,000 to 29,000) with an age composition of 25%, 60% and 15% age 
3, 4 and 5-year old fish, respectively. An Area D fishery opening is not 
planned at this run size however an in-season reforecast may result in an Area 
D fishery opening. A Fishery Notice update will be provided on August 2 and the 
earliest possible opening date is August 12.  

The Burman Chinook pre-season forecast is for a terminal return of 5,000 fish. 
At this run size there is a small Area D TAC of 525. Further fishery planning 
is required but in preparation for a potential fishery, the Area D Harvest 
Committee is commencing a selection process in anticipation of a potential 
limited effort Chinook fishery. If a fishery proceeds, it would likely be 
limited to only 3 vessels.

Area D licence holders wishing to participate in the potential Burman limited 
effort Chinook fishery should apply by sending an email to Arnie Hengstler, 
Area D Harvest Committee member (fish@saltspring.com).

E-mail applications must state clearly:
- Vessel name;
- CFV;
- Vessel operator's name; and
- Vessel operator's telephone number; 

Only e-mail applications will be accepted and the deadline for applying is July 
31, 2019 at 12:00 hours. To make sure your application has been received all 
fishers must receive a return confirmation email. A draw will be held on August 
1 and the results will be posted on the DFO Fishery Notice system on August 2, 
2019. It is expected that if fishers are selected in this draw, they are 
committed to participate in this fishery.
