Fishery Notice

Central coast Coho limited entry demonstration fishery

This demonstration fishery was first implemented in 2016 as part of the work to 
implement updates to the Commercial Salmon Allocation Framework (CSAF). The 
purpose of this demo fishery is to permit a small scale opportunity for a 
limited number of vessels to access Coho and Pink salmon in Areas 6, 7 and 8 
during the month of August and to gather stock composition data where there is 
currently poor biological information available. This fishery is a limited 
effort fishery where effort will be limited to 4 vessels in Area 6 and 3 
vessels in Areas 7 to 8 for 2 week periods during the month of August. This 
fishery will also have additional mandatory monitoring requirements to 
facilitate CWT and DNA sample collection. Please note that harvesters are 
required to cover costs of the monitoring program, consistent with CSAF 
objectives and requirements.  

A random draw was used to select and rank order vessels by time period and 
area. This selection occurred on July 16 with ranking of selections listed 
below. The top 4 ranked vessels will be designated for Area 6 and top 3 ranked 
vessels will be designated for Areas 7 to 8. The next ranked vessels will be 
identified as alternates and may be permitted to fish the named areas provided 
one of the designated vessels does not participate in the fishery.
