FN0380-COMMERCIAL - Invertebrates: Pacific Oyster - Reminder to Avoid Harvesting on Licensed Aquaculture Tenures

The 2019/20 commercial wild Pacific oyster fishery season opened March 1, 2019
under the new 2019/20 Pacific Oyster Integrated Fisheries Management Plan.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada would like to remind all ZWO and FZWO licenced
harvesters that harvesting on licensed aquaculture tenures is not permitted
under the authority of their licence without the permission of the tenure
holder.

Harvesters are asked to watch for aquaculture tenure boundary markers and avoid
impacting any aquaculture operations.

Notes:

Harvesting is prohibited in all Sanitary Contamination closures. Check for
sanitary closures within portions of the management quota areas listed above
prior to each day's harvesting.

Harvesters are responsible for checking Fishery Notices for the Bivalve
Shellfish Marine Biotoxin Updates prior to each day's harvesting, as
recommended by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and issued by DFO.

For descriptions of Sanitary and Biotoxin closures see the DFO website at
http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/contamination/biotox/index-eng.htm

Harvesters are advised to observe the boundaries of any intertidal tenures.
Harvesting on tenures is prohibited under this fishery opening unless
authorized by the tenure holder.

Fishers should consult and read the 2019/20 Pacific Oyster Integrated Fisheries
Management Plan and the licence condition for this fishery prior to fishing.

Harvesters are reminded that the harvest licence for this fishery authorizes
hand-picking only. Harvesting by diving or other harvesting methods is not
authorized by this licence.
