Central Coast Herring Bulletin # 11 April 5, 2019: The charter boats Lady Raven and Royal Jazz have finished their charters for the season. Monday April 8, 2019 is the last charter day for 3Girls2 and Windward Isle. The dive charter Ocean Cloud is assessing the spawn in Norman Morison Bay, Pachena is enroute to Kitasu Bay and will continue assessing spawn in Kitasu Bay. A herring flight was conducted on April 4, notable results include: Harlequin Basin - 4 Sea lions. Small washout spawn to the north of Kwakume Point. 51° 41.615'N and 127° 53.329'W Illihie Inlet - No spawn observed. Mustang Bay spawn - Medium intensity, looks diminishing at 51° 49.378'N and 128° 02.948'W Stewart Inlet - Washed out spawn at head. Ducks and sea lions present. 51° 53.731'N and 128° 07.186'W West Side of Spitfire Island - Spawn 0.2nm length at 51° 50.925'N and 128° 13.764'W. Hurricane Island (North end) - Spawn 0.5nm 51° 53.787'N and 128° 13.945'W. Powell Anchorage - Sea lions. East Higgins Passage - Sea lions, gulls and scoters. Commercial SOK vessel present. No active spawn. Kitasu Bay/Wilby Point - Sea lions, gulls and scoters. No active spawn. Cann Inlet - Washed out spawn in Cann Inlet. 52° 33.133'N and 128° 42.369'W. Meyers Passage - Three spawns observed. Sea lions present. Area 6 No new sounding information in Area 6. Spawn was observed in Clifford Bay March 31 during the herring flight, additional reports indicate the spawn has expanded to the Northern point of Clifford Bay. Area 7 Total 2,545 tons Area 8 Warrior Cove to Uganda Point ---- April 2, 40 tons Kwakume Point ------------------- April 2, 85 tons, spawn starting 51° 42.050'N and 127° 53.204'W and extending 2.8nm to the South. No fish backing. Mustang Bay --------------------- April 1, 1500 tons, spawning at head of bay March 27; Mustang Bay;7.4%;17.9cm;83:65;50-15-1-0-4;(15g:66g) (adjusted roe yield=8.4%) April 1; Mustang Bay;7.3%;17.6cm;78:67;49-18-1-2-6;(15g:66g) (adjusted roe yield=6.8%) Edward Channel ------------------ April 3, 25 tons Pruth Bay ----------------------- April 2, New spawn at 51° 39.213'N and 128° 7.709'W. Area 8 Total 1,650 tons Area 10: Area 10 Spawn: The spawn which was observed March 25 on the North shore of Boswell Inlet across from Olive Point and on the North side of Denison Island is being assessed.
