Central Coast Herring Bulletin #6 March 25, 2019: The second herring flight was carried out 13:00 hours - 17:00 hours and flew both North and Southern flight paths. New spawn was observed near the entrance to Ellerslie Bay in Spiller Channel, approximately 0.24nm long starting at 52° 30.732'N and 128° 4.300'W toward the East. Spawn was also observed in two bays; Cheenis (52° 29.156'N and 128° 6.352'W) and the bay to the South ( 52° 27.777'N 128° and 7.405'W). New spawn was observed on the Eastern shore entrance to Neekas Cove, 52° 26.670'N and 128° 8.977', extending 0.35nm toward Spiller Channel. The spawn in Kitasu Bay has extended into the head of Parsons Anchorage and into Osment Inlet, and around Marvin Islands. The Spiller Channel spawn also continues to grow with new spawn in several bays from the bay 1.5nm North of Neekas (52° 27.777'N and 128° 7.405'W) outward to Tankeeah. The Norman Morrison spawn continues to expand, with evidence of spawn or milt showing from near Kintail Point around the bay to 52° 11.400'N 128° and 12.888'W, approximately 3.75nm. One herring school was observed in East Higgins Passage, there was no new spawn, nor significant bird/wildlife activity observed anywhere else.
