Fishery Notice

The following Areas will open for commercial harvesting of Spawn on Kelp under 
the authority of a Category J licence on the dates specified:
 
5-1 to 5-12, 6, 7, 8-1, 8-2, 8-3, 8-4 and 8-16 open March 19, until 23:59 hours 
May 31, 2019.
Variation Order 2019-180 in effect. 
	
Area 12 opens March 19, until 23:59 hours April 30, 2019.  
Variation Order 2019-100 in effect. 

Area 27 opens March 19, until 23:59 hours May 31, 2019.  
Variation Order 2019-101 in effect. 

It is important that licence holders and vessel masters refer to their licence 
text for individual licence areas.

This notice opens portions of licence areas within the Strait of Georgia, 
Central Coast, and portions of the North Coast for commercial harvesting of 
spawn on kelp.  

Area 5: A precautionary management plan has been developed and will be used to 
guide operations in Kitkatla Inlet.

Areas 3, 4 and 10 are not included in this opening notice, please see below: 

Prince Rupert District licence operators: Areas 3, 4 are subject to a 
precautionary management plan which has not been finalized.  Discussions are 
still occurring.  Please contact the local DFO office for an update.  

Central Coast licence operators: Area 10 is subject to a precautionary 
management plan which has not been finalized.  Discussions are still 
occurring.  Please contact the local DFO office for an update.  

Operators wishing to participate in the 2019 fishing season must enrol in the 
mandatory monitoring program with Doug Tallman of JO Thomas and Associates
