The seine test vessel MV Queen's Reach arrived in Louscoone Inlet on March 9, 2019 for a 25 day charter of Haida Gwaii major (2E) and minor (2W) stock assessment areas. Sounding and test setting occurred throughout the major stock assessment area from March 9 to 16. Queen's Reach moved to Area 2W on March 18 to assess the minor stock assessment area for approximately 6 days. The vessel is expected to return to the major stock assessment area to continue assessments on approximately March 25. SOUNDINGS/TEST RESULTS: Area 2W Port Louis; March 19 (morning), active spawn observed from Turner Point to Steele Creek (will update tomorrow). Area 2E Louscoone Inlet; March 9 and 10; 1400 tons (inner 700 tons, outer 700 tons); 6.5%; 22.5cm; 42m:26f; 24-0-2-0-0 Skincuttle Inlet; March 11; NFF (No whales, sea lions or bird abundance observed; March 15; NFF; bird abundance noted in Swan Bay. Juan Perez Sound/Upper Burnaby; March 12; 3500 tons (East of Park Is., too deep to set); Hutton/Haswell/De La Beche Inlets; NFF; March 13 and 14; 2000 tons (Haswell Bay 1500 tons, Werner Pt. to Marco Is. 500 tons); 9.5%; 19.3cm; 56m:52f; 48-3-2-0-0 (19.9g:91.1g). Atli Inlet; March 12 and 13; Skimmer. Selwyn Inlet; March 12 (evening); 270 tons (170 tons near Selwyn Rocks, 100 tons East of Kilmington Pt.).
