FN0098-Correction to 2018/2019 Pacific Herring Integrated Fisheries Management Plan
A correction has been made to the 2018/2019 Pacific Herring Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP) that was released on February 6, 2019. The Central Coast SOK fishery (Areas 6, 7, 8) has an expected use of up to 665 short tons for the Heiltsuk First Nation and 300 short tons for the other SOK licences. The Heiltsuk have an established Aboriginal right to a commercial Spawn-on-Kelp fishery. To support their constitutionally protected rights and to meet objectives of conservation and ensuring orderly and well-managed fisheries in Area 8, the three other commercial SOK operations that typically operate in Area 8 will not be licenced for the 2019 season. The IFMP has been updated to reflect this change. You may request an electronic copy of the IFMP from Victoria Postlethwaite (victoria.postlethwaite@dfo- mpo.gc.ca), and the final copy will be posted on the DFO library website shortly.
