FN0091-UPDATE 2018/19 IFMP and AMENDED Licensing Information - 2019 Roe Herring Pool Designation Deadlines
The 2018/2019 Pacific Herring Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP) has
been approved by the Regional Director General, Pacific.
As in the 2018 season, the following process will be used to determine gear
allocations, subject to further advice from the Herring Industry Advisory Board:
Coast-wide roe herring total allowable catch (TAC): 19,783 short tons (may be
adjusted if additional conversions to Food and Bait)
Note: The roe herring fishery will occur in the Strait of Georgia only in 2019.
Gill Net:
---------
Strait of Georgia
11,472 short tons
Seine:
------
Strait of Georgia (maximum of 8 pools)
8,311 short tons (may be adjusted if additional conversions to Food and Bait)
Seine Food and Bait Option: For 2019, Roe Herring seine licence eligibility
holders may select to harvest in SOG Food and Bait fishery. If this option is
elected, the seine licences will not be eligible to participate in the 2019 Roe
Herring fishery and will instead receive an additional 39.7658 tons quota on
the designated existing Food and Bait (category ZM) licence.
Selection into the Food and Bait fishery for SOG is on a one way basis. Roe
Herring licences that select the Food and Bait fishery will transfer 39.7658
tons out of the Roe Herring seine fishery and into the Food and Bait fishery
for that area.
This process commenced December 7, 2018 and ends February 12, 2019. To date, 43
licences have been converted to Food and Bait and an associated 1,709.93 short
tons has been removed from the SOG Seine Quota.
Participation and (Pool total) Quota allocation will be based on the pools as
submitted for SOG.
Further updates regarding catch targets and gear allocations for roe herring
will be provided via fishery notice, when available.
