Sanitary/Other Contamination Closures
Subject:
FN0030-SANITARY - Area 14 - Emergency Closure for Bivalve Shellfish in a portion Subarea 14-11 of Baynes Sound (Sanitary Closure 14.ad) has been revoked.

As a follow-up to Emergency Closure 14.ad, invoked on Friday, December 21,
2018, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has confirmed that the
overflow bypass of the primary cell of the Cumberland Lagoons, operated by the
Village of Cumberland, has ceased and that no further occurrence has been
reported since the original event. This area has remained closed for the
minimum 21-day closure period required after the cessation of this unscheduled
release of diluted raw sewage.

As per Appendix VIII of the CSSP Manual of Operations, ECCC recommends that
Emergency Closure 14.ad be revoked. Please be advised that Emergency Closure
14.ad encompasses the northern portion of Section A of the Baynes Sound
Conditional Management Plan (BSCMP). Section A remains closed under a rainfall
trigger exceedance that occurred on January 3, 2019. Section A may revert to
open status once verification sampling has been performed and has met the
requirements outlined in the BSCMP.

Therefore, emergency closure 14.ad for bivalve shellfish, as described below,
is now revoked. All licensed decontamination fisheries suspended within
Closure 14.1 may resume immediately.
