FN1285-COMMERCIAL - Invertebrates: Intertidal Butter Clam - Area G - portions of Area 12 - Opening 12:00 hours December 15, 2017
The commercial intertidal Butter Clam fishery opens 12:00 hours December 15, 2017 to 04:00 hours December 21, 2017 (6 tides) in the following Areas: Area 12; Subareas 12-16, 12-17, 12-6, and 12-26 Variation Order # 2017-639. Note: This commercial Butter Clam opening excludes that portion of Subarea 12- 39 along the shoreline of Broughton Island such as Deep Harbour and Cullen Harbour. Note: During colder weather re-bury undersized clams immediately after sorting. Subareas are described in the Pacific Fishery Management Area Regulations. Permanent closed areas include: Health Bay; Fly and Insect Islands; Monday Anchorage; Blunden Passage; Betty Cove; the intertidal foreshore of Village Island between Warren Bluff and the western entrance to Canoe Pass. All eligible fishers must have their 2017 licence and meet the conditions of that licence. This includes: Wear a high visibility vest with licence number marked on it. All containers holding clams shall be marked or tagged with the following information: Licence number, Harvest date, Licence holder's name, beach or location where harvesting occurred and the Pacific Fisheries Management Subarea. Tags shall be waterproof and information shall be written in water resistant ink. No container of clams shall remain untagged during transport to market sale or a wet storage location in preparation for market sale. Harvesters are advised to confirm the buyers have a market for all butter clams harvested before participating in this opening. Only harvesters with a commercial clam licence and a Fisher's Registration Card are authorized to participate in this fishery Littleneck clam fishing opportunities will remain closed at this time due to apparent low densities. Comments from fish harvesters on the abundance and strength of Native Littleneck stocks observed in the area are requested.
