FN0910-COMMERCIAL - Invertebrates: Crab - All Areas - Multi-Sectoral Meeting October 4, 2017

The annual crab multi-sectoral committee meeting is being held October 4, 2017
at 9:00 AM at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in Nanaimo. All
representatives that have been previously identified by the Department are
invited to attend.

The Crab Sectoral Committee provides a forum for the exchange of information
and views between all user groups and Fisheries & Oceans Canada on issues
important to the management of the fishery.

The Sectoral Committee has the following goals:

Allow the exchange of information between representatives and Fisheries &
Oceans.

Advise on the development of annual Management Plans for the fishery.

Advise on the development of long-term management strategies for the fishery.

Provide information and advice regarding stock assessment and biological
research for the fishery.

Recommend representatives to other advisory bodies, as required.

Crab Sectoral Committee members have requested that Fisheries and Oceans Canada
consider changing the format of the Crab Sectoral Committee meetings to provide
better opportunities for engagement in crab management. This will be a key item
on the agenda, and Fisheries and Oceans will be looking for representatives
from all user groups to form a subcommittee to develop recommendations on how
to improve this process.

An agenda is being developed and will be distributed upon request prior to the
meeting. Representatives who would like to propose agenda items are asked to
contact Jen Gordon - Regional Crab Lead (contact information below).
