FN0794-RECREATIONAL - Salmon - Chinook, Pink, Coho and Chum - Region 1 - Qualicum River - Fishing Opportunities


Salmon retention opportunities in the Qualicum River in Region 1 are as follows:

Pink:

Effective 00:01 hours August 9, until 23:59 hours December 31, 2017 the daily 
limit of pink salmon is four (4) per day in that portion of the Qualicum River 
upstream of the E & N railway bridge to the Horne Lake Dam.

Chinook:

Effective 00:01 hours August 1, until 23:59 hours October 15, 2017, the daily 
limit of chinook salmon is four (4) per day, none over 62 cm in that portion of 
the Qualicum River upstream of the E & N railway bridge to the Horne Lake Dam.

Effective 00:01 hours October 16 until 23:59 hours December 31, 2017 the daily 
limit of chinook salmon is four (4) per day, only two over 62 cm in that 
portion of the Qualicum River upstream of the  E & N railway bridge to the 
Horne Lake Dam.

Chum: 

Effective 00:01 hours October 16 until 23:59 hours November 30, 2017 the daily 
limit of chum salmon is one (1) per day in that portion of the Qualicum River 
upstream of the E & N railway bridge to the Horne Lake Dam.

Coho:

There is non-retention of coho salmon until further notice. Retention 
opportunities will be determined in-season.

Notes:

Fishing opportunities downstream of the E & N railway bridge will be determined 
in-season. 

Fishers are reminded that additional fishing restrictions may be in place; 
which are set out by the Province of British Columbia in the BC Freshwater 
Fishing Regulations Synopsis.


Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal 
waters of British Columbia.  

The term "marked" means a hatchery fish that has a healed scar in place of the 
adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery 
program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and 
coho salmon.  Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for 
coast-wide stock assessment.  Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program

Anglers are advised to check http://bcsportfishguide.ca for fishing closures 
and other recreational fishing information.
