In-season activity and catch reporting is a mandatory requirement under the 2017-2018 Area E Salmon Gill Net Conditions of Licence. This information is important for in-season management of the fishery. Furthermore, Fisheries and Oceans Canada has identified improved catch monitoring as a fundamental priority for fisheries management. Failure to comply with the 2017-2018 Area E Salmon Gill Net Conditions of Licence, in particular those sections specific to activity and catch monitoring, will be a priority for enforcement action. A summary of mandatory harvest log and reporting requirements while fishing for salmon, as stipulated in the 2017-2018 Area E Salmon Gill Net Conditions of Licence, are as follows: Report Type - Reporting Deadline - Action Start Fishing - Before starting a fishing trip - Phone AMR/E-Log End Fishing - Within 24 hours after end of trip - Phone AMR/E-Log Cancel Fishing - Within 72 hours after intended start - Phone AMR/E-Log Pause Fishing - Not later than 24 hours following the completion of a fishery opening and prior to commencing a subsequent fishing trip - Phone AMR/E-Log Daily Catch Report - in Areas 16 to 19, 28 and 29, for each day fished by 08:00 h of the following day and in Areas 20, 21, 22 and 121 not later than 24 hours following the completion of a fishery opening - Phone AMR/E-Log Offload Catch Report - not required in 2017 Note: Daily Catch must be recorded in the harvest log for each day fished by 23:59 hours of that day or prior to each landing. Daily Catch Report Confirmation numbers must be recorded on the Daily Catch Record page in the harvest log for each day fished. For paper harvest log users, all report confirmation numbers are acquired by phoning AMR after completion of the fishery opening. For example, a 3 day fishery opening would require 3 Daily Catch Report Confirmation numbers. Most fishers would also provide an End Fishing Report at this time as well. E-log users must digitally transmit this information using a properly encoded electronic mail message.
