2017-2019 TUNA IFMP:
The 2017-2019 Albacore Tuna Integrated Fisheries Management Plan with 2016 post-
season information has been approved and a copy can be requested by sending an 
email to: Caroline.Wells@dfo-mpo.gc.ca.

2017 HIGH SEAS AND CANADIAN WATERS TUNA FISHERY OPENING:
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans effectively closed the 2016/2017 
fisheries for tuna species in waters of the Pacific Ocean within the Canadian 
Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and offshore (high seas) as of March 31, 2017 at 
23:59 hours.  

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans issued variations orders, effective 
April 1, 2017 at 00:01 hours to open fisheries for tuna species within the 
Canadian Exclusive Zone (EEZ) and the offshore (high seas).

2017 US EEZ TUNA FISHERY OPENING:
As per the current fishing regime under the Canada/USA Pacific Albacore Tuna 
Treaty, the U.S. EEZ will be accessible for albacore fishing and port access 
for USA68 licence holders on the eligibility list (numbers 1-45) from June 15, 
2017 at 00:01 hours to September 15, 2017 at 23:59 hours.

LICENSING:
To renew or apply for a new tuna licence for 2017 please follow the 
instructions in the previously broadcasted Fisheries Notice FN0387:

LOGBOOKS:
As per Conditions of Licence, all tuna vessels must meet the monitoring 
requirements for the tuna fishery, including submission of harvest logbooks, 
compliance with hail requirements and recording of bycatch.

The industry selected service provider to arrange monitoring services for 2017 
is the Canadian Highly Migratory Species Foundation (CHMSF), 4829 Maplegrove 
Street, Victoria, BC, V8Y 3B9, (250) 658-0179. 

Please contact the CHMSF to arrange for purchase of logbook, data keypunching, 
hail, data transmission and other services prior to fishing for tuna.

WCPFC/IATTC VESSEL REGISTRATION:
All tuna harvesters are required to submit a WCPFC/IATTC vessel registration 
form prior to harvesting for tuna anywhere in the Pacific Ocean. Forms do not 
need to be submitted annually unless any information previously submitted on 
the form has changed. Further details and information on the requirements can 
be found in your Conditions of Licence.

TUNA ADVISORY BOARD ELECTIONS:
The Tuna Advisory Board (TAB) elections are now closed. The list of newly 
elected TAB representatives can be found in Appendix 9 of the 2017-2017 IFMP.
