Spawn Summary The herring spawn overflight conducted on Wednesday March 22 found approximately 3 miles of spawn along the north shore of Catala Island and the Vancouver Island shoreline of Rolling Roadstead in Esperanza Inlet. Approximately 1.5 miles of active heavy spawn was observed in Little and Terrace Beaches in Ucluelet. Another small spot spawn in Spring cove appeared to have been active the day before. 2 miles of spawn was observed at Whitesand Cove, south of Ahousaht. No new herring spawns were observed during overflights conducted on March 25 and 27. The next scheduled herring spawn overflight is scheduled for Thursday March 30. The flight will be weather dependent. First Nation contractors continue to conduct herring spawn reconnaissance, supplemental surface spawn surveys and FSC catch monitoring on the west coast of Vancouver Island in: Area 24 Area 25 Observed Spawns Area 23 Barkley Sound Mar 22 - Little and Terrace Beaches approximately 1.5 miles Mar 21 - Spring Cove spot spawn.
