FN0291-ABORIGINAL and COMMERCIAL - Herring - Roe - Area 2 - Haida Gwaii - Update March 27, 2017
Haida Gwaii Herring Update #6 2017 03 27 TEST CHARTER Soundings and herring sampling in Area 2W has concluded for the season. The Queens Reach transited through Skidegate Narrows on March 24 and is currently working around Burnaby Island. The test vessel will continue to operate between Louscoone and Selwyn Inlets for the remainder of the charter, which ends April 2. SPAWN SURVEY The Recon Charter, via the Haida Guardian and assisted by the Victoria Rose, are expected to commence monitoring herring activity between Skincuttle and Selwyn Inlets within the next week. The Dive Charter via the Haida Spirit will commence dive surveys of spawn one the major spawn commences. Herring Spawn in Area 2W will be surveyed using surface survey methods via the Atlas, which will be deployed on March 31. SOUNDINGS/TEST RESULTS: NOTE: Sounding information is not a complete representation of herring biomass and only represents a subjective estimate of what was observed by the test vessel.
