North Coast Herring Update March 25, 2017: Area 5 - Kitkatla The charter vessel Franciscan No. 1 continued sounding in Kitkatla yesterday. They performed an additional test set near the Absolom Islands. Their last day operating will be March 26. The seine fishery is complete in Area 5. The quota has been met. See Fishery Notice FN0246 for details. Spawn Flight March 23, 2017 Cunningham Passage: Spawn along the south eastern shore to Redcliff Pt. Mist Island: small spawn Burnt Cliff Island: spawn along the western shore advancing along the southern tip South Island: Spawn along western shore Haycock Island: spot spawn Belletti Point to Shattock Point: spawn has advanced into the small bay south of Shattock Pt. Swallow Island: spot spawn Spawn has advanced south from Swamp Island to Ryan Pt. Birds on the water past Ryan point which may indicate spawn into Duncan Bay. Tugwell Island: spot spawn near the north end Total Spawn to Date: 24.18km or 13 miles The Nita Maria will continue to monitor spawn on grounds until Monday, March 27. The Dive Charter Royal Pride will begin operations on March 27.
