Haida Gwaii Herring Update #5 2017 03 23 TEST CHARTER The charter vessel Queens Reach is currently operating within Englefield Sound today and will be moving north towards West Skidegate later this afternoon. The test charter is expected to transit though Skidegate Narrows on Friday and return to the Haida Gwaii Major Stock Assessment Area Friday evening. HAIDA AFS PATROL The Haida Guardian patrolled lower Juan Perez and Skincuttle Inlet earlier this week and has since left the area. No spawns have been observed to date however they noted that the majority of the herring activity is concentrated in along the NW side of Burnaby Island within Burnaby Strait. SOUNDINGS/TEST RESULTS: NOTE: Sounding information is not a complete representation of herring biomass and only represents a subjective estimate of what was observed by the test vessel.
