FN0265-ABORIGINAL and COMMERCIAL - Herring - Roe - Areas 6 to 10 - Central Coast - Update March 22, 2017
Central Coast Bulletin #17 March 22, 2017: The Proud Canadian remained in the Spiller Channel area yesterday, and attempted another test in Spiller Inlet. They set on what appeared to be a 300ton school of fish, but found anchovies. They will be heading through the Boddy Narrows area and into Thompson Bay. The gill net charter Three Girls 2 continued their sounding program into the Troup Passage and Gunboat Pass area before returning to the Bella Bella. They report "fishy" activity in the area. They will be heading into Powell Anchorage and then into Spiller Channel. The CCGS Vector was in the Nalau Passage and Namu area yesterday, before moving back into the Bella Bella area. The first spawn flight took place this morning, and covered an area from Powell Anchorage and Spiller Inlet and Spiller Channel, south to Nalau Passage. Sea lions and birds were observed in several areas, but no fish or spawn was visible. Due to poor visibility, the flight was unable to head into Area 8 or to the East Higgins/Kitasu Bay area. The next flight will be as soon as the weather allows. No spawn has been reported or observed in the area.
