North Coast Herring Update
March 18, 2017: 

Area 4 - Big Bay
Fishing continues. See Fishery Notice FN0228 for details.

Area 5 - Kitkatla

The charter vessel Franciscan No. 1 continued sounding in Kitkatla yesterday.  
They were able to conduct a test set yesterday morning near Coquitlam Island. 
No spawn has been reported. Strong winds are hampering assessment operations.  
Assessment continues.  The seine fleet is requested to stay out of the area 
until advised otherwise.

Roe Test:
March 17; Coquitlam Island; 7.6%, 20.0cm; 44:48; 29-11-5-0-0;(26.73g:108.88g)

March 16; Red Can Cove; 8.4%; 20.4cm; 49:38; 31-4-3-38-49;(27.48g:115.79g)

Definitions:
Scratches - Herring present in small schools 1 to 2 tons
Skimmer - Herring spread out near the surface, difficult to quantify
Fish on bottom (FOB) - Herring too close to the bottom to quantify
NFF - No Fish Found
Washed out spawn - Spawn that is coming to an end
Miles - Means nautical miles for this bulletin
