FN0234-ABORIGINAL and COMMERCIAL - Herring - Roe - Areas 6 to 10 - Central Coast - Update March 18, 2017
Central Coast Bulletin #13 March 18, 2017: The Proud Canadian moved from Spiller Channel yesterday through lower Mathieson Channel and into the East Higgins Passage area. They report that fish are still very 'wild' and difficult to assess tonnage. The gill net charter Three Girls 2 began their sounding program yesterday working through the Boddy Narrows area into the Thompson Bay area. The CCGS Vector is also in East Higgins working with the Proud Canadian. They will be in the area today before heading southward towards the Bella Bella area. The first spawn flight for the Central Coast has been delayed, as weather conditions have not been suitable. No new test sets have been completed. No spawn has been reported. Harvesters are reminded that the earliest seine fishery was March 11, and spawn timing is similar to the North Coast where fishing has commenced.
