Spawn Summary

The last spawn flight was conducted on March 15. The flight covered areas 23 to 
25.  0.5 mile of spawn was observed at Nuchatlitz in area 25.  This spawn 
appears to be a continuation of the spawn that has been on going in the 
rockpiles at Nuchatlitz since March 8. 

The next scheduled spawn overflight is Sunday, March 19.  

The vessel based dive team aboard the F/V Canadian Shore with Skipper Paul 
Bevandick is currently in Esperanza Inlet assessing the spawns found at 
Nuchatlitz. 

First Nation contractors continue to conduct herring spawn reconnaissance, 
supplemental surface spawn surveys and FSC catch monitoring on the west coast 
of Vancouver Island in:
Area 23 
Area 24
Area 25

Observed Spawns

Area 23 Barkley Sound 
Feb 13 - Salmon Beach and Forbes island approximately 3/4 miles. 

Area 24 Clayoquot Sound
Mar 9 - Calmus passage/Cat face spot spawn.
Mar 6 - Clifford Point approximately 1.0 mile.
Jan 30 - Hesquiat Harbour approximately 3.25 miles
Feb 23 - Hesquiat Harbour approximately 1.0 mile

Area 25 Esperanza Inlet
Mar 15 - Nuchatlitz approximately 0.5 mile
Mar 9 - Louie Bay to Hixson Bluff approximately 1 mile.
Mar 9 - East shore of Port Langford spot spawn.
Mar 8 - Nuchatlitz to Port Langford approximately 3.0 miles.
Feb 23 - Port Langford,approximately 1/4 mile. 

Test Fishing

The test fishing vessel F/V Proud Canadian completed their test fishing Charter 
on March 11.
