North Coast Herring Update March 16, 2017: Area 4 - Big Bay The charter vessel Nita Maria continues sounding operations today. Significant bird life has been observed close to the beach, between Tree Bluff and Swamp Islands. They will be conducting an overflight this afternoon. A more detailed report will be posted later today. Area 5 - Kitkatla The charter vessel Franciscan No. 1 continued sounding in Kitkatla yesterday and performed a test set this morning. No spawn has been reported. Strong winds are hampering assessment operations. Assessment continues. The seine fleet is requested to stay out of the area until advised otherwise.
