North Coast Herring Update
March 15, 2017: 

The charter vessel Franciscan No. 1 began sounding operations in Area 5 
yesterday, working in the Kitkatla area. The charter vessel Nita Maria will 
begin their sounding operations today, and will be in the Big Bay portion of 
Area 4.  No spawn has been reported.

Absalom Island ------------------- Mar 14, Fish on Bottom
Gravel Pit to Robert Island ------ Mar 14, 20 tons
Porcher Peninsula to Gravel Pit -- Mar 14, 15 tons, scratches
Gurd Point to Rocky Bay ---------- Mar 14, 1 small school 

Area 5 (Estimated) Total           150 tons in whole area

Definitions:
Scratches - Herring present in small schools 1 to 2 tons
Skimmer - Herring spread out near the surface, difficult to quantify
Fish on bottom (FOB) - Herring too close to the bottom to quantify
NFF - No Fish Found
Washed out spawn - Spawn that is coming to an end
Miles - Means nautical miles for this bulletin
